Delete messages off iCloud but NOT iPhone?

We are trying to delete messages off an iCloud account (we don’t need need it because there are no other devices used in this account) but we do not want to delete them off the phone itself. I have disabled the iCloud messages so it will not sync going forward, but I want to know what will happen if I delete messages off the iCloud. Will it remove messages from the phone? I am not worried about losing messages on “other devices” because I don’t have any others on this account. Basically, can I “disable and delete” messages on my iCloud without losing them on the phone? Or will I lose them on my phone as well?

Hello Needapplesupport06,

Per the article Delete messages on iPhone - Apple Support, "With Messages in iCloud, anything you delete from iPhone is also deleted from your other Apple devices where Messages in iCloud is turned on. See Use Messages in iCloud."

The messages themselves can only be deleted off of the iPhone. They cannot be deleted within iCloud itself. So you can disable iCloud to prevent further message syncing, but to delete messages you would need to do so from the iPhone.
