Hello, I had gotten my iphone xr screen fix today and when I had unlocked my phone it had said ‘sos only’ although I had my physical card in, and I have never knew about the esim so my question is, is it an esim I need to be able to get out of sos only

No, it's not a matter of SIM card or eSIM.
Try a "forced" restart of your XR, using these gestures:
Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the side (power) button. Only when the Apple logo appears (it might take 10-20 seconds), release that button (ignore all other screens that might appear, the one with the "slider" to turn the device off included).
If the issue persists, take it back to the repair shop and explain your problem.
