Stand reminders/other notifications during Sleep Focus

Hi,

Can someone please tell my how to stop my watch from beeping and haptic-ing during the night while I'm in Sleep Focus? I thought the whole purpose of a Sleep Focus would be to completely eliminate any distractions through the night. And why on earth am I getting Stand reminders at 4:45am?

Watch notifications not muted in Sleep Focus I started using Sleep Tracking with my new iPhone 16 Pro and Apple Watch 9 after reading about the Sleep Tracking improvements in iOS 18/watchOS 11 (which the watch has been upgraded to). Every night my watch and phone go into Sleep Focus at the scheduled time, yet I receive Stand reminders (i.e. via the watch's haptics system and a sound - the same alerts I get during the day when I appreciate the reminders), two or three times a night. I also received one notification of a credit card charge having gone through which probably came from a third-party banking app. I have had two phone sessions with Apple Support to try to address this problem. Both support advisers agreed that this is not expected behavior and have confirmed that I have Sleep Focus set up correctly. But other than stumbling around in the phone's and watch's settings, they haven't seemed to know what the source of the problem is or how to fix it. I am literally losing sleep over this problem, so I would really appreciate it if any users have concrete suggestions.

SW update needed: Stand reminder overrides Sleep Focus Using the Activity App, I set a Stand hours goal and turned on the reminder to stand if I haven't done so within the last hour. I also use the Sleep Focus every night to silence all notifications from Apps and block calls except from my Favorites or repeat callers. I also wear my Watch while I sleep so that the Health data trackers (Heart rate, Respiration, Body temperature, O2 levels, Afib and Sleep Apnea trackers) can operate while I sleep. About the time my Apple Series 9 watch updated to WatchOS 11, I started to get Stand reminders beginning between 3:00 and 4:00, during the time period I had set as Sleep Hours. The Sleep Focus turns on automatically at 22:00 every night and remains on until 6:00 the next day. I haven't noticed any other Stand reminders occurring between the hours of 22:00 and 3:00 when I'm sleeping soundly. At first I thought this was a bug, but lately I concluded that the algorithm processing sensor data from the watch now determines that I am awake at this early hour, well before my morning alarm. As I'm still in bed and have been for several hours, the Stand reminder triggers when it should not do so. I thought it was the Stand reminder that was waking me, but now I realize I was awake--though half-asleep--and that inactivity is what the watch noted to send this unnecessary reminder. The software should be updated so that the Stand reminder is suppressed if the Sleep Focus is still on. By way of comparison, if I rise before my morning alarm goes off, the Watch or my iPhone ask if I want to turn off Sleep Focus. It seems like a simple adjustment to state the conditions that: (1) if Sleep Focus is on (with or without the time of day being before an Alarm is set), then (2) the Stand reminder (or other Activity Reminders) is suppressed. I can't always avoid waking up during the night and taking some time to fall asleep again. While it's great that the Watch algorithms are so finely attuned that they can distinguish wakefulness--no matter how limited--from sleep, they should not be prompting me to get up before I'm ready to exit Sleep Focus. I could not find any other combination of settings in Activities or the Sleep Focus to disable or suppress these reminders while I'm asleep. The only work-around I can use at the moment is to silence notifications on my watch. I will still get the haptic tap on my wrist to stand up but usually that isn't enough to fully awaken me, and it doesn't disturb my partner like the notification sound does.

Hi Tones,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

We understand that you're hearing sound and getting distracted during your Sleep Focus. This can occur if you have certain apps or or people allowed to contact you during this time. From your paired iPhone, go to Settings > Focus > Sleep and view which apps and people you have allowed to contact you. Remove any that you do not need to have enabled.

If this doesn't address your concern, provide details on what is causing the being at night.

Use Do Not Disturb with Focus on your iPhone or iPad

Hi,

I thought I'd disabled any apps that could disturb me, but this morning (at 3:45am) I was woken with a REMIND TO STAND on my watch.

I don't care - I'm not wearing it bed anymore after last night. It would be nice if Apple could understand the irony waking people up while the watch is in "SLEEP" Focus, and simply stop alerts or reminders during that time.

Pity, it does a great job at everything else...
