How To Connect 2 Drives and External Display?

I have a MacBook Air M1 which I used in clamshell mode connected to an LG display 27" display via USB-C which powers the MacBook. I was wondering what can I use in the second available USB-C port on the MacBook that will allow me to connect two SSD hard drives. One to be used for Time Machine backups and the other for Final Cut Pro libraries? Your help is appreciated.

Hi DonQ,

Per the site MacBook Air (M1, 2020) - Technical Specifications your available expansion ports are:

"Charging and Expansion

Two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports with support for:

  • Charging
  • DisplayPort
  • Thunderbolt 3 (up to 40Gb/s)
  • USB 4 (up to 40Gb/s)
  • USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10Gb/s)
  • 3.5 mm headphone jack"

If you've confirmed that the drives you want to use will not exceed the transfer rate listed when combined or be used only independently, you may be able to find a Thunderbolt hub or drives that allow daisy-chaining to share that remaining port.

Regards.
