Sidecar resolution too high to be useful

I'm using a 2018 MBP with MacOS Ventura 13.1 and a iPad Pro (12.9 inch) (3rd generation) with iPadOS Version 16.2 as my sidecar display.

When I connect my iPad as a sidecar (extended) display, the resolution on the iPad is way too much, effectively making any text and UI so small to where it is not useful as a secondary display.

Is there any native solution for this issue? I understand there might be some third-party apps that could possibly get the job done, although I haven't tried any to verify this claim, but they cost money and that just seems silly when it should work natively.

I'm having this exact same problem, except when I follow your steps, as soon as I stop mirroring (even when set on optimize for iPad Pro) it resets the resolution in the extended display back to the same problem. Any suggestions? I need it for doing artwork and this is getting really difficult to account for

Hi, you can change sidecar screen resolution in following steps:

  1. Connect iPad as sidecar monitor (by default it connected as "Extended display")
  2. Open System Settings -> Display, select your main or Built-in Display.
  3. In "Use As" select "Mirror for iPad_name":

4. Set "Show all resolutions" to ON, select desired resolution:

5. Now in "Use as" you can select "Stop mirroring" and resolution for iPad would be saved for the future connections.

This is extremely non-user-friendly, such a setting should be available if you select iPad on Display settings. Also different resolutions for sidecar should be applicable. Having 1280x960 or 1440x1080 would be great. Hope Apple devs will implement it soon.
