Basic M2 Mac mini's slow SSD and it's suitability for editing? I received the announcement of the new M2 Mac mini with enthusiasm. 30% increase in CPU and GPU performance together with updated Bluetooth and Wi-fi sounded enough to tempt me to shell out a few quid on the base model. However, 24 hours later I discovered the nasty trick that Apple had played with the SSD . . . there was only a single 256GB chip instead of 2 x 128GB ones resulting in Read and Write speeds being little more than half that of the base M1 Apparently the larger capacity SSDs do not suffer from this problem but on principle there is no way I would fork out £200 for another meagre 256GB of storage. Should I wish to buy a Mac mini, it appears I have 2 choices . . . get the M2 and take a performance hit with that dodgy SSD or buy one of the old M1s. There should be quite a few new/unsold M1s going cheap. What sort of negative effect am I likely to notice with the base M2 when video editing? Will the extra CPU and GPU performance outweigh the slower SSD?

Seeking Advice: New MacBook Pro M3 Max Performance Issues I'm seeking advice regarding my recent MacBook Pro Max 3 purchase and issues I’m encountering. I upgraded from a 2013 MacBook Pro which became problematic due to the spinning wheel, unresponsive apps, overheating, and loud fan noise during simple tasks. To address these concerns, I upgraded to the new MacBook Pro Max 3 with enhancements, primarily focusing on memory for multitasking with apps like Photoshop, Dropbox, Word, Mail, Safari, Cricut, and Acrobat. I do plan to do some very light video editing in the future when I finally get around to converting old home movies. My current specs are: - 4TB SSD storage - 64GB unified memory - 16-core CPU - 40-core GPU - 16-core Neural Engine Despite these improvements, I've encountered performance issues within a week of use. Even with basic applications like Word, Excel, Acrobat, Dropbox, Mail, and Safari open, I'm experiencing the spinning wheel. I prefer maximum screen brightness due to vision challenges, but I doubt this is the root cause. Additionally, I've faced the following problems: Random black screen, unresponsive to touch, requiring a force power-off. (Has happened twice) Occasional trackpad freezing with cursor disappearance when multiple apps are open. Incorrect network disconnect messages despite being connected. iCloud Drive sync issues persisting even after restart and direct Ethernet connection attempts. Having invested $5,303.17 (seriously might have to sell a kidney) in this MacBook, I'm deeply disappointed with its performance. I anticipated smooth operation, especially given the substantial memory upgrade. I'm contemplating returning the MacBook, but I'm unsure if upgrading to 128GB of unified memory would resolve these issues. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated as my return window will be approaching shortly.

The shipment weight for the 2020 MacBook Air 13'' printed on the label outside the box has been 2.1kg

The shipping box itself is 35x26x11cm.

You can find the technical specifications for that computer here: MacBook Air with M1 chip - Tech Specs - Apple. It lists the size & weight as:

Size and Weight

Height: 0.16–0.63 inch (0.41–1.61 cm)

Width: 11.97 inches (30.41 cm)

Depth: 8.36 inches (21.24 cm)

Weight: 2.8 pounds (1.29 kg)

The internal hardware differences will be negligible as far as changing the Mac weight. The box dimensions are not listed as different regions may have different sizes and types of boxes for shipping the Mac out.
