Desktop disappears randomly from Finder sidebar

Desktop disappears unpredictably from Finder sidebar.

I cannot relate this behaviour to any specific condition or action - it just happens.

I have to repeatedly re-insert Desktop into the Finder sidebar using Finder Settings.

I can't find any 'solutions' in Community or on Apple pages that work.

This is very annoying and so un-Apple; I can't believe it is allowed to persist.

As I feared, Desktop has disappeared again from Finder sidebar.

My machine has not been turned of since I did the 'plist-delete' suggested by leroydouglas; it seems to be time limited?

Has anyone else experienced this annoying bug?

if no insight or resolve —

If it is a corrupt plist, delete the <com.apple.finder.plist>

Found here Finder>Go>Go to Folder copy and paste:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

Once you delete the plist reboot the machine or simply relaunch your Finder from the >Force Quit>Finder>Relaunch

plist are rebuilt by default—Now try customizing your sidebar and see if it sticks.
