compare i7 to i9 to M1 to M2

I have a M1 mac mini with 16gb ram that I use for data analysis and some video editing. I got it last summer and it works perfectly. Is there a fan? It's never come on.

I also have a 2017 MBP that I want to replace.

But I'm thinking about replacing them both with a new powerful laptop. I don't mind buying an older laptop, is why I'm asking about i7 and i9. If I replace the mac mini then I'll use a second display with the laptop. I doubt I'll need three displays. Also, it's not necessary for me to increase the laptop display size but that would be a big bonus.

Plus, there are the new MBPs and maybe a new Macbook Air coming out?

Seems like keeping 16GB and choosing between the four options ranges between $1000 and $2500 on best buy. I'm guessing I can find something that fits my needs in the $1700 neighborhood.

Thanks for any insight.

This is a refurbished one for $1400 that I'm wondering might be similar in speed to the M1 mac mini. Refurbished 2019 MacBook Pro 15.4" Display- Intel Core i7- 16GB Memory- AMD Radeon Pro 555X - 256GB SSD

But maybe I want to stick with the new Apple silicon so that I'm not buying a deprecated machine.

Bracketing the above choice in price with a new mac is an M1 Macbook Air with 16GB for $1300 or an M1 Pro MBP 14" with 16GB for $2000.

Thanks for any insight.
