audio pausing when specific apps are opened. is there a way to change this?

hello all! ive seen people encountering similar issues but not this specific question so I figured i’d ask. pretty minor problem.

when I’m playing audio (tested apple music, spotify, and libby audiobooks) and open certain apps (netflix, spotify oddly) it fully pauses whatever i was listening to, even before i start playback in the new app. it only does this when netflix/spotify initially starts. anyone else having the same issue ? on ios 16, i just switched from android so very used to tweaking settings to fix small problems like this. anything to be done? or is it in netflix and spotify to fix. thanks !

iPhone 13, iOS 16

Hi pepprcabbg,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand audio is pausing when using some apps to play music or audiobooks and you open an app like Netlix. This is expected behavior for some apps. It's likely they assume you'll be listening or watch something with audio. If there isn't a specific setting in Settings > Netflix, then there isn't a way to change this behavior. If this is something you'd like to see changed, we recommend contacting the app developer as explained here How to contact an app developer.

"

  1. Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Search for the app, then tap it. If you can't find it, tap the account button  or your photo at the top of the screen, tap Purchased, tap "Not on this [device]," then tap the app.
  3. The app's product page appears. Scroll to the Ratings & Reviews section, then tap App Support. If you don't see App Support, make sure that you're signed in with the correct Apple ID.

"

Take care.
