Optimised Battery Charging enabled, but battery still on 100%

Hello,

I have enabled Optimised Battery Charging on my Macbook Pro M1. I use it only on charger while device is turned on, but when device is switched off I have charger disconected (at night I have turned off socked, where is charger plug in).

My concerns are, that my battery is always on 100%. There is note "Power Source: Power Adapter" and "Fully charged" in battery status menu. If I keep my notebook connected to power most of the time, I should see the message "Charging On Hold (Rarely Used On Battery)", battery should be charged only to 80%, so why it is always at 100%? To trigger "Charging On Hold", do I need to keep charger connected to power source alsi when notebook is switched off?

Thank you

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.1

Thanks for reaching out davidvaho,

It sounds like you have some questions about Optimized Battery Charging on your MacBook Pro. We can help.

A great resource you can check out that covers a lot of the expectations of Optimized Battery Charging can be found here: If battery charging is paused or on hold on your Mac.

In particular, check out the following:

In macOS Big Sur or later, Optimized Battery Charging is designed to improve the lifespan of your battery and reduce the time your Mac spends fully charged. When the feature is enabled, your Mac will delay charging past 80% in certain situations. Your Mac learns your charging routine and aims to ensure that your Mac is fully charged when unplugged.

When Optimized Battery Charging is active, the battery status menu displays when your Mac will be fully charged or whether charging is on hold. If you keep your notebook connected to power most of the time, you might see the message "Charging On Hold (Rarely Used On Battery)" when charging is paused.

Keeping those in mind, let us know if you have any additional questions.

We are here for you.

Take care.

Thanks for your response, but I had already read those resources before I posted my question.

I found similar questions, where are users facing the same issue, enabled Optimized Battery Charging, but functionality does not trigger and their batteries are always charged to 100%. I didn't found a satisfying answer in those discussions.

While my notebook is turned on, I always use it with a connected charger and if it's turned off, there is disconnected charger too. My question is, if in this use case it is possible, that Optimized functionality start working and start to keep my battery charged only to 80% during the day (if notebook running on charger).
