Viewing photos in iMessage on a MacBook Pro

I have an iPhone Xs and a MacBook Pro, both using iMessage.

For some time now I have been unable to view (and occasionally send) photos on/from my MacBook Pro (running Ventura 13.1.)

The images appear in iMessage as in the attached screenshot.

The images appear normal on my iPhone but I am unable to open them on the desktop iMessage app.

I have tried to research the issue and tried all of the suggestions, such as:

  • Logout and login of Apple ID
  • Turn off/on
  • and many more

Most of the suggested solutions related to the problem occurring on an iPhone, and, as I mentioned, my phone is working fine but the MacBook is the problem

Has anyone encountered this behavior before and have any potential fixes?

Hey bigchill702,

If you haven't yet, let's make sure that your iPhone is updated to the latest iOS version:

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

For some additional steps if you're having issues updating. check out this article as well: Update your iPhone or iPad

If the device is updated and the issue persists, we recommend that you get in touch with Apple Support team next: Contact Apple for support and service

Cheers!
