Apple File Provider API - External Storage / Dropbox

Hi,

we are using Dropbox Business for our professional work (with more than 25TB in the Dropbox) on multiple Macs. Every Mac has some kind of RAID Storage (Thunderbolt, internal PCIe M.2 Card) with multiple TB of Storage connected. Our Dropbox Folder is saved on these RAID Storage Locations.

The new Dropbox Update uses Apples new FileProvider API and forces Dropbox (and other Cloud Solution Users) to move the Dropbox Folder to the Users Library Folder ( ~/Library/CloudStorage)

So basically it moves the folder in your home directory. This is impossible for us because on most machines we have over 8 TB of data synced locally to have always / offline access to them.

And because this "restriction" comes from the FileProvider API I am asking in this forum - is there a way to move the CloudStorage Folder to external storage? I read that moving the entire Home Directory would work, but maybe there is a more elegant solution with smaller impact on system files.

SymLinks don't work.

Thanks for your help
