Hey Folbo,

We'd recommend reviewing the information in this article as it provides options for adding links to Freeform: Add a link to a Freeform board on Mac

" In the Freeform app  on your Mac, click a category in the sidebar, then double-click a board to open it.

  1. If you don’t see the sidebar, choose View > Show Sidebar.
  2. Click the Insert Media button , choose Link, type or paste a URL, then press Return.
  3. Tip: You can also drag a link into your board from Safari or another app.
  4. To change, open, or refresh the link in your default browser, select it, then use the formatting tools."

You can find steps for adding files here: Add other files to a Freeform board on Mac

Thanks!

I am contacting apple … here i am! They sent me here!

So, based on your generic fob off, am I to take it that Freeform cannot cope with links? The latest app cannot do it. I had given up on abandonware like pages but I was hopeful that Freeform might be a worthy app rather than a toy. I presume that it related to Apple not being able to do what Dropbox, OneDrive et. Al. Have done for years … share files … not even privately or within family sharing. I do not mean that nonsense of a web ui … i mean a copy of the file itself on the device of different people. Even shared folders would do.

Ok.

so I drag a file from the finder window (or files app) onto freeform’s page and I get a link to that file?

when I try it, i seem to embed a copy of that file (not  a  link … an actual enbedded file!). This creates a thumbnail that when i click … and click again i get to see it in preview. Preview allows me to open in numbers (in this case) … as a copy. It has a long hexadecimal filename and does not include changes made to the original in the mean time. What is worse is that having opened in numbers, changes made are not even saved in freeform’s embedded version. Finally, open it again … click preview …click to open in numbers … creates a third version!!!

expected behaviour … click to load original file … just like click to load a website. No use of preview … and definitely no duplicating files. It should be a link to the original.
