Install stuck when “preparing to transfer user documents”

Way back in the day I posted this thread in which @HWtech kindly gave me some Simple’s instructions.

Over two years later I have started to follow them!

I chose migration assistant to transfer my files from my Mac to the new install which is attached via an enclosure.

its been like this for an hour and I think it may be stuck. Should I cancel or give it the evening?
