Google maps lagging and showing wrong direction with carplay

over the past few days I’ve noticed Google maps and Waze are drastically lagging e.g., it’s not keeping up with my exact location and takes time to catch up. Also the direction in which the map is displayed is incorrect. It’s flipped through 180° essentially with me driving backwards and lagging. It’s really frustrating. I have an iPhone 14 pro and use wireless Apple car play. I did notice a brief message the other day on Waze whilst experiencing the above issues. I think it said “turn on location services” and then went off back to the incorrect sense of location and lagging. This is confusing because I have location set to whilst in use on both google maps and Waze and precise location one. I haven’t experienced this issue before. I am also on the latest version of Google maps (6.49.5) and am running IOS 16.2 (latest). Does anyone have any suggestions?
