Audio and Video are out of sync in iMovie even though they are from the same source

I'm new to iMovie. When I import a video with its own audio into iMovie, the video and audio are out of sync. I have separately recorded audio I want to use instead, and when I detach the video's audio and match up the separate audio to the video, it's fine at the beginning, but by the time the video finishes, the audio is out of sync again.

As a separate problem, when I trim to playhead, iMovie removes the video to the right of the playhead instead of the left like it used to.

I just installed Ventura and suspect this is somehow the problem since I didn't have these issues before. Today I got the newest version of iMovie, but that didn't help. FPS is 1080p. I converted the separate audio to 48 kHz, but that didn't help either. I've restarted in safe mode and then restarted in normal mode, but that did nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try slightly adjusting the speed of either the audio clip or the video clip to bring it into sync. Control click on the clip and, in the pop up menu that appears, click on Show Speed editor. That will cause a speed adjustment handle to appear in the upper right corner of the clip. Move the handle slightly to the left to speed up the clip, and slightly to the right to slow down the clip. Fiddle with it until the audio and video are in sync. Again, for more precision it helps to have expanded out the timeline. If it still gets out of sync toward the end, you may need to split off the out of sync part into a separate segment, and eliminate the sync issue in the segment.

Also, try deleting preferences. To delete preferences open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command

keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes.  Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.

As for you question about trim to playhead, I am running iMovie 10.1.12 on Mojave, and when I use trim to playhead it removes the video to the right of the playhead just like in your case. Instead of using trim to playhead, drag the left edge of the clip to the playhead to trim off the clip to the left of the playhead.
