Is there any way to turn off the Return key as a signal to send your text messages and only send the text when you press the blue send arrow?

Hi Twinsis41,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

To send a text on iPad or iPhone, choose the blue up arrow. Using the return key will move the cursor down in the message field.

"You can send a text message to one or more people to start a conversation.

  1. Tap the Compose button at the top of the screen to start a new message, or tap an existing message.
  2. The Messages list, with the Filters button at the top left and the Compose button at the top right. A blue dot to the left of a message indicates it’s unread.
  3. Enter the phone number, contact name, or Apple ID of each recipient. Or, tap the Add button, then choose contacts.
  4. Tap the text field, type your message, then tap the Send button to send.
    • A blue send button indicates the message will be sent with iMessage; a green send button indicates the message will be sent with SMS/MMS, or your cellular service.
    • An alert Alert badge appears if a message can’t be sent. Tap the alert to try sending the message again."

You can see these details in Send and receive messages on iPad.

Regards.
