How can I fix excess Photos space on my ipad?

I have an iPad 9 that has worked great. However, about 6 months ago Photos storage hit 26 GB and has remained unchanged ever since.

I only have 22 photos in the ipad library, but in "Documents and Data" 26 GB appear. Why does he manifest such a large amount? What is happening? Thank you for your attention and support.
