Don't know if it would be twice as much. But it would sure keep a lot of professional users happy. I dread the day that my 23" display needs to be replaced. So I second that suggestion. A non glossy option would be a smart idea.

Well I'm sitting in the Green Library at Stanford and my 'control' over the environment is quite limited. In one direction

there are pinky pulsing flourescent lights  which carry a significant chance for me of triggering a migrane. In the other direction it is windows to the outside, illuminated by a local star with an intensity of about 100,000 lumen per square meter. I do not want to be troubled by reflected light.

I assume that Apple is serious about me using my Mac Book Pro for work as well as play. That's why I buy a new one every year or less.

However, this practice of Mac Book replacement will stop dead as soon as it is not possible to get a one with the

    anti-glare screen.

To be frank. This idea of using a shiny surface on a screen which one is using for an extended period

is dumb and has all the hallmarks of a marketing idea floated by a person whose capacity for good

    judgement is ordinary..

Same for me. When my matte ACD 23" goes dead on me.

I've checked Eizo (more than once) but their monitors are really distasteful...

I hope Apple will soon come up with an answer for professionals.

ps: Call me silly but I even tought of going back to windows because of this new policy at Apple.  In the sense of: "Apple drops professionals? Well, let the professionals drop Apple too."

Without looking very hard I came across, http://lifehacker.com/5583650/run-mac-os-x-in-virtualbox-on-windows.

I wish VMware simulated the MAC (perhaps they do). That would solve all. I love my sleek Mac Book Pro but it would be seriously useless if it did not have the matte screen.

I want a Anti-glare non glossy screen.  I have a 24 Inch iMac, white, with matte screen.  I love my computer.  I will wait to purchase a new one until I can have a matte screen option.  I will NEVER buy a glossy screen.  For me it is just unusable, and unhealthy.

Apple if you are listening, you need to offer your customers the option between Glossy and Matte screens.

My white iMac with antiglare screen justa died yesterday... No fix possible. Now what??? Glossy monitors are not for professional photographers.  Two years ago I bought a glossy iMac but ended up selling it.  Same picture in boths screens looks completely different.  No way to do a proof print or anything precise.  Sad story mr Jobs.  You are going the wrong way... You make me look for other brands. Bye

Along with many others, I hate the glossy screen on the iMacs.  I think it's a great computer, but it's rough on someone who stares at the screen for 8+ hours a day.

Apple, are you listening?  Please offer a matte display option on the new iMacs, like you've done for the MacBookPro line.

I bought 27' Cinema Display a year ago.   It is unusable for any programming work.

    I am very sad.

A very large number of not only professional users will be happy to get the anti-glare screen as an option with the new iMacs and Cinema Display. And I almost did not meet professional and semi-professional IPS displays with glossy screen.

This is the main reason for my friends who chose other displays despite the good quality of the Cinema Display in all other respects.

It would be nice if Apple would incorporate the users wishes. I sure hope so.

    Hi guys and girls,

I have a solution. There is a matte screen protector made for imacs, (or even macbooks) that turns any shiny screen to matte! It is precut to the shape of your device. I have it for almost a year, and I love it on my big 27inch imac. I do not work for them, but I just wanted to give credit where it's due. Good product!

Hi cdroot! Thanks for the advice.

Typically suchlike films provide some pixels displaying crystal-effect. And the more such a film so it is more difficult to stick exactly over the entire screen surface.

Maybe it's better than having a glossy screen when you already bought it but I think this is worse than the factory anti-glare screen.

I really like the anti-glare screen of my MacBook Pro I hope this option is retained in the new slim Apple notebooks and appear in the new Apple Cinema Display & iMacs.

Thanks for the educated reply. It WAS actually quite challenging to stick on the whole surface. There were helpful videos and instructions provided that helped a lot tho. I do not, however, notice much, if any crystal effect. All in all, it was a good investment, and solution, until Apple decides to provide a matte version of the imac. I really love the size and beauty of my imac, so no complaints here!

I have been on Apple products for over 20 years, and it is the professionals who supported Apple, who are the reason for Apple's success. Who stuck by them, who were the first ones to buy the iPods and iPhones -- the designers, photographers and artists who were there first. And saved them from bankruptcy. Who talked them up!

Where did I see my first Mac? In my design college --- and how many products have I bought for work since, Apple?

Plus SE, Plus, Mac II, G3's, G4's, MacBooks, Two 23" Cinema Displays, a Mac Mini, 3 iPhones, an iPod, 2 Nano's and a shuffle... at least.

To ditch us pros ("go buy a $75 bit of plastic to dull your screen" they say) by not giving the 'option' of a flat screen, is both rediculous and unsupportive to the people who built Apple.

Apple can't design a brilliant beautiful flat PROFESSIONAL screen line? C'mon.... improve the old LCD Cinema Display.

I have the 23" flat Display which is great! I actually had 2 of them once. I want to upgrade to the iMac 27" screen, because I need a more powerful computer. But I am holding off because I don't want glossy. Does the pear look better?

I work all day, the changing light of the day will be a problem, and I dont want to see myself reflected either in the mirror-like finish. Why Apple are not giving that flat screen 'option' for workers, I dont know.

In your ads Tim, show the glossy screen all you want, we professionals don't care about that – but give us what we need to do our work. Please!

Enuf said.... We supported you Apple, now you support us!

I agree with you!  Our University lab wants to use matte or antiglare screens.  They are buying other monitors.
