Recent wrist irritation where watch back contacts skin.

I started w/ an Apple Watch 4, wore it non-stop (except for showering) cleaned it irregularly and never incurred irritation over the course of probably 4 years. July20022 I ‘upgraded’ to a series 7. Still wore it constantly (except showering) and after about 6 months I noticed irritation on my wrist. After 2 weeks of washing it regularly and ensuring my wrist was dry before putting it on, the irritation was getting worse. I naturally moved the watch to the opposite wrist, and after about a week irritation developed on that wrist. It is my uneducated guess that some sort of coating has worn off, which would explain why my second wrist started reacting so quickly. Now i am looking for a way to affix a back cover/plastic wrap hack to keep this from becoming worse. Let me know if anyone else has found anything that ‘works’. Even after 6 weeks of not wearing it my wrist is still puffy, red and has itchy flaky skin. Thank you.

Yep..as other posts suggested i contacted apple, unsure of what that would actually do. They asked a large amount of specific questions-have you spoken with a doctor, when you noticed the irritation did you remove and discontinue wearing the watch, etc, what type of band, how big is the irritation area. I answered about the size of a 50 cent coin, and the investigator quickly came back and stated the watch back is not that big?? How tight/loose do you wear the watch, how many hours/day (23) do you where the watch, and eventually requested pictures. I’ve sent the pics. Seems like that are collecting info. Also seems as if there is no help for my plight. I don’t expect anything…never did. But I suppose it is helpful to provide them with data. I suppose if enough people report, the engineers may actually change something to address the issue. At this point I’ve no info. But i should add that personnel were readily available to collect this info…so that is better than talking to a recording or something.

  1. Today my ‘case’ was closed. Full disclosure i missed the ‘scheduled call’ but was able to talk with a rep later. Not sure if my phone blocked the number but phone never rang, but then would show VM and 2 missed calls-bummer. I was told that I need to keep my watch clean and dry…and that my band *leather and/or mesh Nike sports bank is likely causing the irritation. They pointed me to an article about nickel/plastic content in their products, and then told me how to wear the band properly. I repeat…only irritation i am experiencing is behind the watch face-no issues with any area that comes in contact w/ any of my bands. The Support person told me there was a titanium watch that may not have nickel in it. I may go to the dermatologist for advice on this-but I’ve seen other posts saying that all available apple watches have nickel in them…so I am considering my options. I did see there used to be a clear bubble sticker that would fit over the sensor and not interfere w/ it, but those seem to no longer be available. If anyone has found a fix…please share. Thank you, i miss my watch, and my phone is too heavy. :(

There is no covering to wear off.
