how to connect 2 monitors to macbook air

I have a MacBook Air M1 2020. It's up to date and running Ventura 13.1.

I have 2 external Acer HDMI monitors... both the same model: R240HY

If I plug them both into a USB C Dongle with 2 HDMI ports they both display the output of the macbook screen (when mirroring) or both can extend the macbook screen ... but they won't act independent of each other. They are detected as one display and just clone each other.

What adapter do I need to get both monitors working independently as 2 external displays?

Thanks.

The M1 MacBook Airs support only 1 external monitor. More information here: Connect a display to your Mac - Apple Support
