Training app drains battery

I am both a cyclist and a runner. When cycling I use the Strava App on my watch (S5) and I can be out for four hours with Strava tracking my route, heart rate and such and still have 50%+ battery left when done.

When running I have started to use the Training App instead. I have noticed several times that after 30 minutes the watch reboots and then says it has less than 10% battery left.

Why can the Strava App do something for more than four hours (track my position and heart rate), which the Training App can’t do for 30 minutes? It must be a software issue with the Apple Training app, no?

I have not had that problem with either app but I only walk/run workout for 45 minutes and have low power mode turned on in Workout.

I suggest you use the Strava app for running as well and see if the battery is affected the same way.

You can also try turning on the reduced gps and HRM readings and low power mode in the Watch workout settings.

Thanks for the reply.

The Training app is set on low power mode but is still draining the battery. The only reason I have tried it out is because it has the functionality of setting intervals, which the Strava app can’t. I have used the Strava app when running (skipping intervals…) and it hasn’t had any problems with draining the battery. So I am pretty certain it is a software problem with the Training app code, it just isn’t efficient.
