Can’t switch off new mail sounds

I have an iPhone 13 mini which chimes every time I get a new mail. I have just one mail account linked to the iOS Mail app (an Outlook account).

Settings/Mail/Notifications/Sounds = None

Settings/Mail/Notifications/Customise Notifications/Outlook/Sounds = None

Settings/Sounds & Haptics/New Mail = None

How can I silence the alerts?

Hello getcrossley,

You could also check under the following notification settings to prevent sound notifications for the Mail app:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Tap on Notifications
  3. Tap on Mail
  4. Sounds > None

If it isn't working as expected, we'd make sure that the iPhone is up to date. It appears you're using iOS 15 on an iPhone 13 mini, which means you could update to iOS 16 and test this further.

Here's how: Update your iPhone or iPad

Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.

2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.

3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.

4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.

The Settings app on iPhone showing options to update to iOS 15.7 or iOS 16.

5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

Let us know if this helps out or not, take care.
