Ws the iphone SE home button redesigned?

Hello, got a new SE a few months ago and the home button felt so different compared to all other apple devices we have/had. Just assumed it was a new design (didn't like it!) but no time to research if it was normal or faulty.

Now the button is not working at all and the assistive comes up. I do have an appointment scheduled to get it addressed but I am still curious as to if the home button has been redesigned and that new feel was the norm, or did I have a dud from the get-go?

Hi OhThatGirl,

We can answer your questions about iPhone and your Home button.

Without knowing the last iPhone you had, it's difficult to say what is different about the Home button.

With the introduction of the iPhone 6s, the Home button didn't actually move and used the Taptic Engine to simulate the feeling of touching a button. If you had an iPhone 6s or newer with a Home button, this wasn't a physical moving button but instead the touch sensor described above.

Here is a list of iPhone devices with 3D or Haptic Touch sensitivity:

Change 3D or Haptic Touch sensitivity on your iPhone

If you had an iPhone SE (1st Generation) or an older iPhone, those had a different kind of button.

If your button isn't working at all or you felt like something was off about it, it's possible that there's a problem and you're doing the right thing to have that inspected by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
