Recover deleted text messages on your iPhone or iPadOfficial Apple Support › en-us
Please read the fine print in the Apple Support document linked just above.:
1) You must have deleted the messages......after.....you installed iOS 16....and....
2) The messages must have been deleted no more than 30-35 days ago
If the Recently Deleted folder does not even show up, you have no deleted messages that meet the two requirements above.
When you do delete a message as a test, you will see that the Recently Deleted folder now does show up and the message will be in that folder. After 30 days, the message is automatically deleted.
