iMovie exports successfully, but only exports incomplete section of my video

I exported my 7:58 minutes video into file, 1080p, medium quality, and it exported successfully, but the result is only a 2:38 minute long clip, which is from the beginning of my video to 2:38, where it just freezes and stops. I tried with other resolutions and video qualities, same result. I tried export to YouTube and Facebook also got the same result, but when I export audio alone it works. I want to export video, the full video, how do I fix this issue? please help.

ps I already restarted laptop several times and also restarted iMovie many times. plz help thanks.

Hi,

Likely there is a corrupt clip or frame at the 2:38 point that is causing the export to partially abort. Expand your time line full out with the slider located above and to the right ot the timeline. Then slowly scroll the timeline at the 2:38 point, before and after. Look for black frames, white flashes, artifacts and anything else that might indicate corruption. Cut out any that you find and try importing again.

You can also try deleting preferences as that sometimes cures export problems. Open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes. Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.

above is what happened when I deleted preferences using the option and command keys while opening. its showing wrong name and 0x0 resolution.

I restarted iMovie again and exported my video, this time it worked but the exact thing happened as before: video gets chopped at 2:38. also the visuals just stopped at 2:31, and the audio continued to play until the end.

I cant tell if it's the footage's problem, so I deleted it and tried again. and it's the same results. so I tried resetting the preferences again and still wont work. I even deleted tons of footage near the part where it stopped, but also have no effect.

could it be an issue with iMovie itself? or some malware on my computer messing up writing videos?

Export faiures can be caused by insufficient free space on the application disk or on the destination disk. So check that.

Also, a corrupt frame or clip can cause the export to quit. Expand out your time line and scroll through at around the 2 to 3 minute area. Look for black frames, white flashes, artifacts and other signs of corruption. Cut out any that you find and re-export.
