Lost old iCloud photos/videos after using iCloud for Windows

I have lost nearly half or more of my photos and videos after using iCloud installed through the Microsoft store on Windows. I installed this so I could see my old iCloud photos through Microsoft's new photos app.

It seems to be the photos/videos that I viewed right after I installed the iCloud application. I viewed them through Windows Explorer. It even still has the thumbnails of some of the videos that are now gone. They have a random long name, and the date is now recent.

Maybe it is some type of synchronization bug? I also noticed about a day after that the photos/videos would not load, or open at times during all of this. It is very infuriating. I noticed that my photo/video storage on iCloud is now way smaller than it was as well.

I tried contacting Apple's support. The person was as helpful as he could be, taking me through all of the simple steps/solutions that you would do in a case like this (checking the recycle bin, checking recently deleted photos). He ended up telling me that he was sorry, there was nothing that could be done. If it was gone from Apple's server (As in, logging into iCloud via a browser, etc.), then it is gone forever. He did say that he would keep my case, and that I could talk to a supervisor but that he would tell me the same thing.

I believe that this is something more technical that is going on, as there seem to be a lot of issues with Cloud and Windows new Photos integration when Googling. I just want my iCloud account back to the way it was two days ago... I figured Apple keeps backups itself, as the representative asked me if I did. I do keep backups of my other photo collections, but not iCloud since I do not/have not used it regularly. I figured they were safe.

Anyways, I don't know if I will get much help with this. But, maybe this could help someone along the way if / when they run into it. And can be noted. Thank you!
