iCloud "unmodified original" photos are low resolution after downloading to my PC - why?

When I downloaded selected photos from iCloud as "unmodified originals", they were about 25% of their original sizes. The originals are no longer on my iPhone because I selected "Optimize iPhone Storage" in Settings. What has happened to my original full resolution photos??????

Restore photos from iCloud I have 535 GB for my iCloud photos and just upgraded to 512 GB phone. I chose the option with optimizing solution. However, it takes forever to go to step syncing from iCloud. I am just able to see recent 1600ish pics and vids from this June. I want to at least see optimized version of all my photos in iCloud. The status is always syncing 1200 items to iCloud; this status took two days already. Also with recent restoring from iCloud, a random picture appeared in my latest picture: a white page with word BIN. The format is “ispRegDump”. I don’t know is this something went wrong with iCloud or where this pic comes from.

iCloud photos are missing I recently switched over to a new phone with more storage, and wanted my photos to save to my device instead of the cloud because they were all low quality photos that I can’t ever see/use, but over 5000 photos wouldn’t back up to iCloud even though I had enough space and storage for it, so I opted to stop sharing with iCloud to see if the photos that had low quality would return to high quality. They ended up being deleted off my device and they are no where to be found in my iCloud on my personal computer even though they were a low quality version that had previously been in the cloud. Any way I can get these photos back?

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.

It sounds like you are downloading the photos correctly. If you are selecting Unmodified Originals, then the photos should be the original resolution.

Have you tested on another device? This could further isolate the issue.

If it is still occurring on your PC, contact Apple Support for a deeper dive.
