Deleting files

Deleting files

How do I delete a file that says it is in use, but is not?
I have restarted my Mac and have also used the option key, the only things in the folder are some word and excel files.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Thanks, once I clicked to Secure Trash everything went away.
