I noticed this problem had occurred in the past to other users, but I did not see if it was ever resolved. I have an iPhone 12 and 16.2 updated.

this only happened to one group chat that I have used for at least a year.

I use iMessage and SMS/MMS. I’m totally confused.

Hey Nana4u,

Sounds like you're having some kind of UI issue where your reply box isn't appearing for a particular group message. First thing we'd suggest doing is restarting. If that doesn't help out, go ahead and update to iOS 16.3 and test things out further. If all else fails, you may want to start a new thread with the group.

For help with updating:

Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly
1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
The Settings app on iPhone showing options to update to iOS 15.7 or iOS 16.
5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.
