Time Machine backups not recognized after SSD replacement

Hi, I have just had a 2Tb SSD installed to replace a failed 2Tb Fusion Drive.

When trying to Recover my files from Time Machine, the drive can be seen but it says no backups are available.

I have run First Aid through Disk Utility and it is taking many hours to work through 'Checking snapshot of (presently) 44 of 132 (com.apple.TimeMachine.2022-01-21065828.backup) warning: xattr_val: (oid 0x2): invalid flags (0x6), given name (com.apple.fs.cow-exempt-file-count). I have not w clue if this is relevant but I really need to get my backups into my new SSD.

Can anyone help me in lay person's language?

Should I wait for Disk Utility to complete the above examination of all 132 (whatever they are?

Thank you

iMac

I am no expert in this but this is what I did:

Using Finder, opened the last backup file before the SSD and OS upgrade was done and navigated to folders such as Documents, Downloads, Music and Pictures and copied all the file back to my new OS.

Followed the advice in this link to reinstall apps I had acquired from the App store:

Followed the advice in this link to reinstall Microsoft apps such as Word, Powerpoint and Excel (I had an Office 365 subscription):

That restored my iMac to a very large extent but with Catalina. A few third-party apps were beyond redemption as they will not work on Catalina.

Did your engineer create another user’s account, perhaps to check out the repair/upgrade? If so, you might find that backup opens with this. I found that, as a usual user, some of the file permissions in the backup folders denied me access but the second user created by the engineer was allowed.

Good luck!
