Exported PDF from Safari but hyperlinks are illegible and broken

I have exported a significant number of pages (recipes from a cooking site) from Safari, but when I open them with Preview, the hyperlinks are blacked out and the hyperlinks are broken. I don't really care about the broken links, but I need to be able to read the text of the link, which show up as redacted blacked out text.

This happens on my Mac mini as well as iPad. How can I read the document and see all of the text?

Hey there weskat,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. If having issues with viewing webpages that was exported as a PDF in Safari, you could take a screenshot of the webpage to view in the Preview app.

weskat,

Thanks for the additional information regarding your exporting PDFs in Safari issue.

The next step is to boot into safe mode and test to see if the issue is still occurring. This will let us know if it's a system:

If it does occur, then please let us know.

If the issue does not occur, then the next step is to create another user account and see if it still is happening. This will let us know if its a user account issue:

G'day weskat,

Thanks for following up with us. To clarify, what happened when you tried safe mode? Testing in safe mode is a different process from testing in a new user as it runs a basic disk check and prevents some items from loading, so we want to verify the results of testing in safe mode.

The steps for safe mode will vary by Mac model, so if you had an issue starting up in safe mode earlier, double-check to make sure you have the steps for your model. How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

"How to use safe mode

Determine whether you're using a Mac with Apple silicon, then follow the appropriate steps:

Apple silicon

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
  3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
  4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Intel processor

  1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window."

Once you test, you can click Apple menu () > Restart to get back to normal.

Take care.

I had some difficulty booting in safe mode, so I enabled a guest user, which with Ventura may have accomplished both requests as it restarts and boots with limited capabilities (Safari only).

I went to same website, used Safari File>Export as PDF and saved the file.

The same situation occurred with hyper text links blacked out as shown below (see ingredient section, 4 ounces)
