Using eSim in Japan as a tourist.

I'm going to be in Japan for six weeks or so. I cannot find a provider that can offer a phone number for text and calling except with a physical sim card which, of course, the American iPhone 14 Pro Max doesn't have. Has anyone else had this issue? What did you do? It's quite frustrating, especially considering that the same model phone sold in different parts of the world still as a sim slot.
