saved contact showing as unknown suddenly

this issue has started today, when my boyfriend calls me it comes up as unknown caller instead of his contact name. he hasn’t turned off caller ID and we’ve tried calling other people from his phone and they’re able to see it’s him calling but when he calls me it shows as unknown. never had this issue before, what could be causing this? i’ve contacted my phone provider but all they did was tell me that he must’ve turned off his caller ID which he absolutely hasn’t and asked me to restart my phone which obviously was the first thing i tried. really confused and would like it to be fixed because unknown callers always set off my anxiety and i don’t tend to answer them!

We want to help resolve the issue so his name shows up on Caller ID like expected.

Make sure you didn't accidentally block him using these steps:

"Phone

Go to Settings > Phone and tap Blocked Contacts to see the list."

If the issue continues, please also check for any pending iOS updates, which can help make sure the software is working as expected. This Apple Support page can help get those updates installed: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

"Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly

Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.

Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."

You can also check for any call filtering apps. Disable your VPN and test again if you're using one.
