Microphone volume low in certain apps

My iPhone 12 recently developed this issue where the microphone doesn't really work in some apps (the recording volume is reaaaally low but its not off).

The microphone works perfectly fine in the voicememos app and the built-in camera app.

The microphone doesn't work in the following:

• Whatsapp Voicenotes
• Whatsapp Videos
• Instagram Videos
• Instagram Voicenotes
• Any calls on any apps, in or out

Microphone has access to all apps, phone is updated to the latest iOS (16.3) but problem has been there since before update, I have restarted the phone, reinstalled apps, disabled and re-enabled access to microphone on affected apps, but to no avail.

Please help.
