Proximity Sensor Malfunction

I have currently been having issues with proximity screen/sensor on my iPhone XR. There is no cracks, dirt, etc on the sensor. It will turn off my screen randomly while on calls when I’m not even close to the sensor. It is very annoying to use during video calls recently. It has become a lot more sensitive as well. I’ve tried resetting my phone and everything. Idk what else to do.

Hey there Zjhill11,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. If you're having an issue with the proximity sensor on your iPhone XR, we would recommend taking a few basic troubleshooting steps to start. They may seem simple, but will help us isolate the issue further, and may resolve the issue on their own. Try each of the following steps in order, testing between each:

  1. Close the Phone app: Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support, then restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support
  2. Make sure you have the latest version of iOS installed: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
  3. Check for any available carrier settings updates: Manually update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If you still nee some help after that, please do not hesitate to respond back.

Cheers!
