Which Apple Pencil is compatible with a IPad generation 5? If none, what is another option for note taking?

The iPad5 does not support Apple Pencil - principally because this (and earlier) models lack the specific screen hardware with which the Pencil interacts with the iPad screen.


Here is Apple’s definitive compatibility list for Apple Pencil and iPad:

As the iPad5 doesn’t support Apple Pencil, third-party alternatives (such as the Logitech Crayon and Zagg Stylus Pro) are similarly unsupported/unusable.


The remaining alternative is to use a passive capacitive stylus. While a stylus may provide slightly greater touch-accuracy, a stylus offers no more functionality or capability than a fingertip.
