Deregister iMessage not working

I used to have an iPhone. I switched to Android a while back. However, when my wife or others message me, Apple still thinks that I have an iPhone, so they still send me blue text messages. Those do not arrive to my phone.

The sender thinks they do, because apple still shows it as sent. But they don't. It mainly happens with group messages. There are long text threads where folks think I'm part of the chain while I'm not.

The solution is to deregister your simcard/number, so that Apple doesn't incorrectly route the messages. HOWEVER, deregistering isn't working for me.

When you go to

Deregister and Turn Off iMessage - Apple Support

>> You provide your phone number, and then you're supposed to get a verification message on your phone.

>> That verification message doesn't get to me.

>> Then you're supposed to click on "Didn't receive a code". But that just routes you to the same webpage and you start over again

So I'm a bit lost...

Any tips?

Hi there Campoblanco,

If you are not receiving messages from iPhone users, the first thing we would recommend is to ensure your phone number is provisioned correctly so that it can send/receive SMS/MMS messages. Your wireless carrier would be the best-equipped to look into this.

Also ensure that these iPhone users are messaging your phone number and not your Apple ID email address, as this will send as an iMessage and not as an SMS/MMS message. This has more information on this as well: What is the difference between iMessage and SMS/MMS?

Once you are able to send/receive messages with a single contact, try to see if you can receive the verification code to deregister iMessage once more. This may affect your group text messages as well and these groups may need to be recreated so that they are sending you SMS/MMS messages and not iMessages in the group. The 'Group MMS' and 'Group SMS' sections here show how to do this with iPhone: Send a group text message on your iPhone or iPad

We hope that helps!

Ben_Z1, thanks for responding. Regretfully, that doesn't fix the issue. TwistedSage is correct, the message from the Apple server never arrives at my phone. It's not in spam either. I can receive text messages and verification messages from any other service but this one. It's almost like the apple service also tries to send me an iMessage.... (which obviously won't arrive).
