I can't find a straight forward answer on this: can I delete all my messages on my phone and keep them on icloud? I have 5G messages on my iphone and 9G on my icloud. My icloud button is green as is my messages button.

If you sync with iCloud and delete messages on device, they will also delete in the cloud.

That was implied in some of the answers I read.
I am thinking I should back up my messages from my iphone to Dropbox.
There is not syncing between the 2 just a transfer from one to the other. This way I have back up and I can
mass delete the messages from my iphone to gain the 5G of space.
