Ventura and extended journaled

I have a new Studio, Ventura 13.1.

It formatted my 1TB Seagate External Hard drive Time Machine in APFS format.

Which, my old iMac cannot read.

I tried to reformat the hard drive to Extended Journaled, but that is not an option. There are only APFS choices.

1 Is there any way to format my Time Machine in Extended Journaled?

2 I have other 1TB time machine external drives. If I plug them into this Studio, will this Studio format them, use them, in their existing Extended Journaled format?

Thanks.

Important element is in Disk Utilities >> View and View ALL Devices.

Erase and reformat a storage device in Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support (CA)

As for Drive Formats used in Time Machine Backup in Ventura,

Normally an Newly formatted drive will be automatically be converted ( if needed ) to the APFS / GUID Format

It will also be marked by TM Backup as Read Only

Thanks.

When I went to erase my thumb drive, I got many options, that included Extended Journaled, so that exists.

I have a 2TB Seagate. 1TB for Time Machine, and 1TB for sundry backup.

When I went to erase the 1TB for sundry, which is Extended Journaled, I had many choices.

When I went to erase the 1TB Time Machine, I got only APFS choices.

From what I have been reading, this new Ventura will only save Time Machine in APFS.
