Mirror screen for external monitor, internal screen is rotated.
2021 14" MBP M1 Pro. Ventura 13.0.1. When I plug my laptop into any external monitor, and have it mirror the the built in screen, the external monitor works fine, but the built in screen is rotated 90 degrees. This makes it impossible to give presentations, as I need to look at the built in screen for my presenter mode notes, and the main screen for the attendees, but with my screen being rotated, it breaks everything. In the past, the built in screen would just scale down a bit, and introduce black bars (since the built in screen is 16:10, and normal TV's are 16:9). But now its completely useless.
Pictured below is my laptop plugged into a regular monitor, and this monitor is not in any weird orientation (picture below below is the display settings.), but the built in screen, which is mirrored), is rotated. This happens on every monitor, tv, screen, projector I plug it into.
In the settings, I set the external display as my main display, since in both cases (presenting, or working at my home office), this external monitor is the main one, and its important that it looks good. Its "optimized" for my monitor, which normally would just put small black bars on the laptop monitor, but now (as you can see in the picture) its rotated it... but there are no rotation settings set on the laptop builtin screen.
Ive reinstalled MacOS. There are no "drivers" to install or update. I've wiped the laptop. Logged in and out of iCloud. Since its an M1, theres technically no NVRAM or PRAM to reset, but i pressed and held those buttons just in case.
Now note: I do have an additional external monitor, it is a Dell 38" ultra wide, that I have rotated 90 degrees, so its vertical. The weirdest thing is even if this monitor is NOT plugged in, the problem remains where the built in screen is rotated. But the built in monitor is set to mirror a different monitor, so this shouldnt be "expected". Its doublely weird, because even if i reinstall the OS, and dont plug in the ultra wide vertical rotated monitor, it still is broken. So im wondering if thats a super niche bug in Apples display software, where as soon as you rotate any monitor, and have 2 external monitors, and mirror the built in display with the non rotated monitor, it will break... which is laughably specific! but im at a loss!
