I've found that every time I set a timer in the Clock app, my phone locks when it ends. It only does this when the "When Timer Ends" setting is set to "Stop Playing" - when it's set to play a ringtone it works normally, playing the tone and sending a notif. Is this how it's supposed to function? And if so, is there a way to turn it off?

It's expected in that it's a known issue, or it's expected in that it's the way it's intended to function? Because it's not indicated anywhere in the UI, clock app, or settings that this is an intended function. Locking the phone unexpectedly without informing the user seems a rather major issue. It also prevents me from using the application for what I need it for.
