Hi John9794,

Re: Why does my mail open in Flagged instead of inbox?

Wondering if your iOS version is the newest and securest available:

About iOS 16 Updates - Apple Support (says iOS 16.3 is the latest)

Else:

Guess you are using the Mail app on your iPhone:

If so:

Seems eMails would be flagged or not from the Inbox,

and, if flagged, would remain in both "Inbox" and "Flagged" Mailbox

Wondering if Apple Support's articles (links below) can help:

There may be a setting you can change:

How to : Flag emails in Mail on iPhone – Apple Support

or Check if a filter is set, and automatically flagging / moving your incoming mail:

How to: Filter emails in Mail on iPhone – Apple Support

How to: Organize email in mailboxes on iPhone – Apple Support

Another tack: You might want to check the account settings in your online eMail provider's (eg: Yahoo, Gmail, etc.) website. Perhaps incoming eMails are set / flagged there, before they reach your iPhone's eMail app.

If needed:

For online chat, phone or eMail support:

There is a "Get Support" link at the bottom of the webpage (link below)
