Why is my mac struggling to get good wifi speeds when my ipad in the same room gets excellent wifi speeds?

I am having trouble with my network speed on my Mac - they are crazily slow. I pay for 500mps Wi-Fi, and seem to be getting 1 mbps only on my Mac. I did the same speed test on my iPad and got excellent speeds. Has anybody got any ideas on this?

Cheers,

The first thing to do (yes even if other devices are okay) is:

  1. Reset and restart your modem.
  2. Reset and restart your router.
  3. Restart the iMac in Safe Mode.
  4. Restart the iMac normally and re-test.
