Calendar data is hosted on one or more servers that also provide email (and Contacts, Notes, and Reminders). Updating the calendar app does not change any of the source data, which is still on the server or servers you sync calendar data to. Go to Settings/Mail/accounts, tap on each account and make sure Calendar is turned on. Then in the Calendar app tap Calendars at the bottom and make sure your calendar or calendars are checked.
