Time Machine Error 19

My Time Machine has not backed up since 1/16/23. Today I sat with it and got Error 19. It has plenty of space. This is happening with my Macbook (13' 2015) Air running OS Monterey 12.6.2. It is upstairs.

The Time Cap is downstairs in the study with my iMac. [iMac - refurb. - retina 5K 27" 2017.VENTURA 13.1]. Time Cap/Machine working ok with iMac. Until I hear from you, I will take the MacAir downstairs and try a TM back-up there.

I have iPhone & iPad, but I don't think they are applicable here. Thank you for any help you can give me. Time and funds permitting I plan on replacing the MacAir in the near future. a d gray

I just re-read and copied the error note on the Mac Air:

"Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to "Alice's AirPort Time Capsule.local." The backup disk image "Alice's MacBook-Air.sparsebundle" could not be accessed (error 19).

The basics......

Power off the Time Capsule by disconnecting the power cord from the back of the device

Restart the MacBook Air

Power up the Time Capsule again and let it run for a full minute

Click on the Time Machine "clock" icon at the top of the Mac's screen

Click Back Up Now

Watch to see if backup will occur

If the backup runs, no further action is needed at this time. If the backup still does not run......

Right-Click on the Time Machine "clock" item at the top of the Mac's screen

Select Verify Backups and run the check

The check will take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more depending on how much data is stored on the Time Capsule disk. Let the process run until it completes, or until you see an error message.

If a message appears, post back with the exact text of the message.

"Time Machine detected that your backups on "Alice's Airport Time Capsule.local" cannot be reliably restored. Time Machine must erase your existing backup history and start a new backup to correct this. Then 2 options: - Remind me tomorrow; - Erase backup history.

Unfortunately, your backup file is corrupted and no longer useable.

If you click "Remind me tomorrow", the same message above will appear again each following day until you click the other option to erase the backup history.

When you click "Erase backup history", Time Machine will erase the corrupted and no longer useable backup file and then start a new backup and move forward.

Thank you, Bob. This did not work. I got the same message after the fail:

"Time Machine couldn't back up to "Alice's Airport Time Capsule.'

"Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to "Alice's Airport Time Capsule.local." The backup disk image "Alice's Macbook-Air.sparsebundle" could not be accessed (error 19).

I had trouble accessing Verify Backups. (How to right click on trackpad). I did some research and held the Option key and found it. However, I got the same message as above. Now on System Preferences I get this message: "Time Machine detected that your backups on "Alice's Airport Time Capsule.local" cannot be reliably restored. Time Machine must erase your existing backup history and start a new backup to correct this. Then 2 options: - Remind me tomorrow; - Erase backup history. Since I use iCloud and the iMac desktop for most things, I figure I could do the latter. But I will await your reply and advice. alice
