Transferring Photos to a Windows PC

Is there any way, any real solution to this?

I have spend this entire day trying to copy my photos and nothing has worked properly. Not the “Windows Photos” App, neither the direct copying from the iPhone folder. I get constant error messages or interruptions when copying.

I don’t want to use a cloud-based service.!

i want my pictures on my disks. As simple as that. That apparently that seems to be too much to ask for in 2023..

I’m deeply disappointed that Apple has still not come up with a solution for us users that pay thousands of euros for their tech and get no working software in return for whom also uses a PC.

has anyone any solution?

a reliable program?

just something that works reliably…

Many thx in advance for any help that may find its way!

Hi noob85,

Here's what has worked for me. I create folders for each year, with subfolders for each month, e.g. ..\2023\2023-01, then I search for all files within the DCIM folder, sort by date, and copy over one month at a time. If Windows Explorer fails to copy a file and crashes out it is generally fairly easy to work out which file caused a problem, and get the remaining files from that month. Rinse and repeat. Once you've done the initial copy you only need to get the last month or two's photos when you want to copy off your new images.

Eventually I was able to figure out what is causing the constant crashes using “Windows Photos”… It’s the videos !!

When I copied only the photos everything worked flawlessly.

A shame that there’s no hint or information whatsoever on the web regarding this.

I also made a Reddit post regarding my finding, hoping to help more people in the near future.

The videos I then copied via a shared network-folder.

Thanks everyone for trying to help!!

That’s what I had been doing (ahm sorry.. trying) for at least 8 hours. I’ve been trying to get that to work and many other alternatives for over 11 hours straight.

nothing works properly.

After 10 years I’m tired of dealing with this. If Apple doesn’t come up with a working solution I’ll be gone from this platform.

many others will probably to the same as I’m not alone with with struggle.

im tired… but VERY tired of seeing that Apple doesn’t seem to be interested in coming up with any reliably working solution what so ever.

Maybe if you described your connections and provided details regarding what "nothing works properly" means someone could provide assistance.

As an aside, threatening to leave Apple is meaningless in these user-to-user help communities. We are users like you trying to help each other. It is too bad you are experiencing difficulties but if you provide some details we will try to help as best we can. If you decide to leave Apple, best of luck with your new environment.
