No such file or directory in safari when clicking on email link

seen similar issues but nothing that has fixed exactly what I am seeing

Equipment

using an iPhone 14 Pro Max running iOS 16.3 (also see this on a 14 Pro)

connected to a NetGear Nighthawk R9000 running FW version V1.0.5.42

connected to a Spectrum Modem EU2251

Issue

Open an email using the Apple Mail App

in the email there is a picture with an embedded link to a website

tap on the picture and it opens a new page in safari

at the top of the page it says "No such file or directory"

it also indicates in the address line "Not Secure -" and then the link address from the email

break-break

when I turn off wifi (just using cellular service) and repeat steps above - the link works and it loads up the page correctly in safari

Note: this has happened for several emails from different stores like Pier 1

trouble shooting so far

  • reset modem, router/wireless, iPhone - in several different order sequences

Any suggestions?

Ok - problem resolved!!

the link above was extremely helpful, thank you

Here is what I did

pretty much followed the instructions from this link https://cleanbrowsing.org/help/docs/change-dns-on-a-netgear-nighthawk-router/

step 1 log into router (click on above link for details)

step 2 Navigate to DNS Section

step 3 select manual DNS server instead of automatic

only difference is that I used the following option for DNS server

Primary 8.8.8.8 and Secondary 8.8.4.4 (these are the Google DNS servers)

other options for DNS server are and I am sure there are many others

1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare)

8.8.8.8 (Google)

208.67.222.222 or 208.67.220.220 (OpenDNS/Cisco)

185.228.169.168 or 185.228.168.168 CleanBrowsing Family

Thank you again for pointing me in the right direction
