I'm trying to set up my esim from mint mobile but when i do it says sim not supported. It tells me to contact my carrier and request to unlock this iphone.

Adding to the replies you already have, if your previous carrier was one of the “big 3” in the US (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile/Sprint) they will all unlock a phone upon request if any carrier financing has been paid off. The smaller MVNO (reseller) carriers like StraightTalk, Tracfone, etc., less so.

Only the original cellular carrier may unlock the iPhone - if they choose to do so.
You will need to contact your previous carrier and ask them to unlock the phone. They are the only source who can do this. Please note that they may be under no obligation to unlock the phone.
