Apple Watch shortcuts

When running shortcuts on my Apple Watch (SE) relating to Notes, the watch hangs and can’t access Notes? It worked on ios15, but fails on ios16 (all versions to date)? Help?

Hello BigJeff100,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

We understand that when running Shortcuts from your Apple Watch, it becomes unresponsive. We are happy to help.

Apple has recently released a watchOS and iOS update. We recommend that you install those.

How to update Apple Watch: Update your Apple Watch - Apple Support

"Check your Apple Watch compatibility

First, make sure that your Apple Watch works with the latest software. watchOS 9 is compatible with these Apple Watch models:

  • Apple Watch Series 4 and later
  • Apple Watch SE (1st generation) and later
  • Apple Watch Ultra

Updating to watchOS 9 also requires one of these iPhone models:

  • iPhone 8 or later with iOS 16
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation) or later with iOS 16

If your Apple Watch isn't compatible with the latest version of watchOS, Software Update will show you the newest version that your watch can use.

Get ready to update

Next, check these things:

  1. Make sure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
  2. Make sure that your Apple Watch is at least 50 percent charged.
  3. Make sure that your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi."

How to update iPhone: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

"Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
  5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."

Here’s more on running shortcuts from the Apple Watch: Run shortcuts from Apple Watch - Apple Support

"Run a shortcut on Apple Watch

You can run a shortcut in the Shortcuts app on your Apple Watch or from a complication.

On Apple Watch, do one of the following:

  • From the Shortcuts app, tap a shortcut.
  • To run a shortcut as a complication, tap the complication on your watch face.

For more information on which shortcuts work well on your watch, see About actions in complicated shortcuts."

Hi,

thank you for the response.

my iPhone 13 Pro and Watch SE (gen 1) are up to date and both devices rebooted several times.

the shortcuts worked perfectly under ios15. Since ios16 I have eagerly up dated to every version in the hope that the bug in ios16 was fixed. Before Xmas I reset both devices hoping that would fix it. It didn’t.

Could you please try yourself-

Create a Note on your phone

Create a simple shortcut to append a text to the note.

Execute shortcut from watch.

i am keen to know if the error happens for you?

thanks
